Just Keep Swimming!
The Disney Conservation Fund (DCF) and Disney Cruise Line are sponsoring two loggerhead sea turtles named Neytiri and Ronal who will swim to raise awareness about the various threats to sea turtle survival. Disney Conservation Team Wildlife released the pair of turtles as part of the 15th annual Tour de Turtles “migration marathon.” Tour de Turtles is a fun and educational initiative that follows the sea turtles migration from their nesting beaches to their feeding grounds.
Tour de Turtles, underway from Disney’s Vero Beach Resort, will track the two turtles, along with 19 others using satellite telemetry (STC) to determine how far and where sea turtles swim during their annual migration. The turtle that swims the furthest distance wins Tour de Turtles!
The turtle names, Neytiri and Ronal are inspired by the upcoming premiere of “Avatar: The Way of Water.”
Disney has been committed to sea turtle conservation for nearly 20 years, emphasized by the Disney Conservation Team Wildlife, who conduct daily surveys on the beachfront of Disney’s Vero Bech Resort to provide the very best habitat for nesting sea turtles.
From May to October, Disney Vacation Club members and resort guests have the unique opportunity to assist the sea turtle conservation team by joining outings to observe sea turtles while learning how they can protect sea turtles through their own daily actions.
