3 Local Businesses at Disney Springs Providing Hometown Flair

Disney Springs offers experiences that are not widely available ranging from distinctive retail stores, award-winning dining experiences, world-renowned entertainment, and unique Disney-owned shops.

Guests travel from all over the world to Disney Springs, giving local entrepreneurs broader exposure. Hometown favorites like Gideon’s Bakehouse, Wondermade, and The Polite Pig give visitors a taste of Central Florida, while at the same time making local guests feel at home. With Disney Springs being one of the most visited shopping and entertainment destinations in the world, it means great exposure for local businesses.

Gideon’s Bakehouse is one of those success stories. Owner Steve Lewis started his cookie business in the kitchen of his home in the Orlando College Park neighborhood back in 2011. Those early days saw orders being delivered on his bicycle! Three years ago, Disney Springs provided the perfect stage to explore his creativity. Visitors to Gideon’s quickly realize it is not only a bakery – it’s an experience.

Another sweet treat made in Central Florida is Wondermade, co-owned by Nathan and Jenn Clark. Wondermade made its mark in the local community in nearby Sanford, Florida in 2014. The artisan marshmallow shop includes unique flavors such as Gold Champagne, Strawberry Chocolate Chip, Rose Raspberry, and the Passion Fruit marshmallow. Nathan purchased a candy thermometer and a marshmallows recipe back in 2011, never dreaming that it would lead to the opening of a store at Disney Springs nine years later!

Husband-and-wife duo Chefs James and Julie Petrakis grew up in Central Florida. They never imagined the possibility of having a restaurant at Disney Springs. All that changed in 2007 when they opened The Ravenous Pig, winning over the hearts of Central Florida residents. The Ravenous Pig has become a modern barbecue staple in Winter Park. In 2018, the Petrakis’ opened The Polite Pig at Disney Springs and the couple realized this was a game changer! “The popularity of the location introduces a whole new segment of guests to not only The Polite Pig, but to our entire brand,” says Julia.

After a day visiting the parks, this hybrid sit-down dining experience offers the perfect way to wind down. The menu is inspired by the best seasonal food that Florida has to offer.

Disney Springs is proud to be called “home” by these local businesses.
