We know that the Disney Cruise Line is the ultimate in luxury. From bow to stern, this floating city is exquisitely appointed and provides everything you could ever need to be completely comfortable for a few days or more at sea.
Part of what makes DCL so impressive is the dining, and Royal Palace doesn’t disappoint.
Let’s take a look at the atmosphere, the food, and how much this awesome restaurant will cost you.
Atmosphere
Royal Palace, as the name suggests exudes royalty from the very beginning with a gold and marble tile entrance covered with a flower-shaped chandelier accented with blue diamonds and glass rubies. Inside the dining room, faux marble columns encircle a round dining room inspired by those pictured in the popular Disney movies Cinderella and Beauty and the Beast. The carpet is blue with gold filigree, and drapes frame windows on each side of the room.
On the walls, you’ll see mosaic tile portraits of Snow White, Cinderella, Belle, and Sleeping Beauty, and there are hints of story accents including glass slippers, apples, roses, and tiaras throughout the dining room.
The waitstaff is dressed in stately uniforms making the restaurant feel very fancy, but there’s no official dress code. Feel free to follow the resort dress code of the ship, or if you or your little ones are into princesses, you’re welcome to wear your favorite fancy attire! Yes, even adults can dress up!
Dining at Royal Palace feels like being inside Cinderella Castle; it’s regal but not stuffy. There are some other nice touches too like bread being presented to each table in a royal coach-shaped basket.
Royal Palace obviously appeals to those who love the Disney royalty, but if you’re not into that, you’ll still love the experience. What’s really cool is that this restaurant is not available on any other ship! There is a similar restaurant on the Disney Fantasy called Royal Court, though.
Food
Royal Palace is open for breakfast from 8am to 9:30am, for lunch from noon to 1:30pm, and serves dinner at 5:45pm and 8:15pm. Breakfast and lunch are opening seating with table service, but dinner is assigned seating.
Breakfast consists of traditional American dishes with some French touches. Expect to see French Toast, pancakes, crepes, eggs, and fruit. Lunch is typically a three-course meal and differs daily.
Dinner is a four-course meal with appetizers, soups and salads, and main dish, and a dessert including vegetarian and kid-friendly options available. Start off with your choice of duck, iced lobster and jumbo shrimp, escargot, mushrooms, or breaded and deep-fried brie. Now that’s French! The next course offers French Onion Soup, Potage Parmentier (leek and potato soup- GF) Farmhouse Salad, or Red Wine Bosc Pear Salad, also gluten free.
The main course consists of crispy-roasted duck breast, roasted rack of lamb, Chateaubriand-roasted filet steak with crushed new potatoes, shallots, buttered green beans, red wine jus, and béarnaise sauce on the side.
The final course, dessert, has some delicious options like Grand Marnier Soufflé, Apple Tart Tatin, Tahitian Vanilla Crème Brulee, Strawberry Shortcake Sundae, and Classic Opera Grateau.
Cost
Royal Palace is part of the ship’s rotational dining, so all of this awesome regality won’t cost you a thing beyond the price you paid for your cruise!
