Mushu breathed fire (or at least tried to) into the first round of the Tournament of Disney Sidekicks, upsetting Sebastian and joining Lumiere and Cogsworth, Mr. Smee, and Iago in advancing to the next round.
Seeded fifth in the Disney Renaissance bracket, Mushu found himself in a deep hole against #4 Sebastian in early voting before charging back over the weekend to win by just four votes, 201-197! (Perhaps the Merfolk’s computers got waterlogged and they couldn’t vote Sebastian over the top.)
New Round, New Fun
Following a week off, a matchup now looms with #2 Timon and Pumbaa in the round of 16. On the other side of the Renaissance bracket, Lumiere and Cogsworth dominated their first-round tussle against Zazu, logging over 70% of the vote and cruising on to an upcoming battle with #1 Genie.
The Villains bracket was also in action, but both battles turned into mutinous routs. Iago borrowed Jafar’s magic staff and obliterated Cinderella’s Evil Stepsisters, and Mr. Smee easily avoided falling overboard against Flotsam and Jetsam. Iago moves on to tangle with the #1 Hyenas from the Lion King, and Smee will try to fend off the mudslinging from Gaston’s sidekick, #2 seed LeFou.
For this week, voting shifts to the Small(ish) and Large(ish) sidekicks brackets. In the Smallish division, #3 Jiminy Cricket will wish upon a star that he can get past Wreck-It Ralph’s Vanellope Von Schweetz. Meanwhile, who knows what to expect in the #4/#5 match, where the Incredible’s Edna Mode takes on Hei Hei from Moana. Top seeds Olaf and Tinkerbell await the winners.
Finally, in the Largeish division, it’s a tow truck vs. kitchen staff, as #3 Mater from Cars tries to haul off #6 Linguini from Ratatouille. We’ve also got a demigod vs. demidog, as Maui from Moana takes on Dug from Up. The Largeish winners will advance for battles with Baloo and Baymax.
