Moana 2 is heading your way! Walt Disney Animation Studios has released a new teaser trailer for “Moana 2,” following the reveal of a new poster earlier this week.
Audiences are taken back to Motunui, Moana’s island home in the new teaser trailer. In the short clip, Moana (Auli’i Cravalho) speaks of hearing a call from their ancestors and sets out on a journey to reconnect her people across the ocean.

Moana’s parents, Hei Hei, Pua, the Kakamora, and of course, Maui (Dwayne Johnson), are familiar faces who appear in the trailer.
According to Variety, the sequel film is written and directed by David G. Derrick Jr., marking his feature-length directorial debut. Music duo Barlow & Bear will contribute songs to the film alongside Opetaia Foa’i and Mark Mancina, who worked on the first film. Lin-Manuel Miranda is not expected to return.
The film’s synopsis is as follows:
In Walt Disney Animation Studios’ all-new epic animated musical, “Moana 2,” three years since her first voyage, Moana is on an expansive journey in search of people beyond the shores of Motunui.
Joined by Maui and a brand-new crew of unlikely seafarers, Moana must journey to the far seas of Oceania and into dangerous, long-lost waters for an adventure unlike anything she’s ever faced.
Originally planned as a Disney+ series, Disney reworked the content into a feature film that was announced by Bob Iger ahead of Disney’s Q1 FY 2024 earnings report earlier this year.
