Walt Disney Family Museum Releases Beautiful New Disney Treasures Book

The Walt Disney Family Museum, based in San Francisco, California, is releasing a new book in October  2024, called “Walt Disney Treasures: Personal Art and Artifacts from The Walt Disney Family Museum.” The book features iconic objects from Walt’s personal and professional life.

I had a chance to preview the book, courtesy of the nice folks at the museum.  It is a large, beautiful hardcover book, filled with unique photos and great stories.

Walt’s grandson, Walter E. D. Miller, is the President of the Board and Co-Founder of The Walt Disney Family Museum.  He compiled the book together with museum Executive Director Kirsten Komoroske and staff.  They are launching the book to commemorate The Walt Disney Family Museum’s 15th anniversary.

The book features more than 250 images of Disney family artifacts from the museum’s extensive collection and the Disney family’s personal archives.  The book focuses on items significant to Walt’s personal and professional life.  Some items are displayed at The Walt Disney Family Museum, while the public has never seen others.

The book includes personal items such as original animation artwork from Disney animated films, a bronzed hat gifted to Walt’s wife Lillian, and Walt’s handwritten designs of Epcot.

The authors divided the book into seven different sections:

  • Heart: Walt as a family man
  • Determination: his inexhaustible drive as a businessman and citizen
  • Inspiration: key figures, places, and works that influenced Walt
  • Animation: his pioneering of short-form and feature-length animation into an American art form
  • Innovation: his experimental and trailblazing contributions to the craft of live-action, animated, and documentary cinema
  • Creativity: Walt’s curiosity with miniatures, trains, and more
  • Imagination: Disneyland, EPCOT, and beyond
  • Legacy: awards and recognition he received throughout the years

A nice touch is that these sections are color-coded, including edge decoration, or color on the edges of the paper opposite the book’s spine.

Let’s take a look:
