Astro Orbiter at Magic Kingdom Closing for Months-Long Refurbishment

The Astro Orbiter in Tomorrowland at Magic Kingdom will close for refurbishment, which is expected to last several months.

The official closing date is January 13, 2025, and Disney plans to reopen the ride in the summer of 2025.

Also closing on January 13 will be half of Dinoland U.S.A. to make way for the new Tropical Americas land at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.

Joining the Astro Orbiter in the refurbishment schedule this January are Big Thunder Mountain, Kali River Rapids Ride, and Gran Fiesta Tour.

Rocket History

Magic Kingdom opened its Star Jets in 1974. Star Jets was replaced by Astro Orbiter (spelled with an “e”) in 1994 as part of the major Tomorrowland overhaul. Astro Orbiter remains atop the PeopleMover platform.
