The Beak and Barrel: A New Pirate Tavern Sets Sail at Magic Kingdom

A brand-new pirate-themed tavern is preparing to drop anchor in Adventureland at Magic Kingdom Park later this year. Called The Beak and Barrel, this lively new spot promises to be a gathering place for adventurers, rogues, and sea-loving guests of all ages. The story behind the tavern involves the legendary pirate Captain Meridian “Merry” Goldwyn and her feathered companion, a spirited parrot named Rummy.

Meet Rummy, The Tavern’s Watchful Mascot

The tavern’s self-appointed overseer, Rummy, perches high above the bar, keeping a watchful eye on the comings and goings of guests. Though he’s retired from life at sea, he remains loyal to Captain Merry and helps maintain order in the bustling establishment. From leading cheers to spinning tales of long-lost treasures, Rummy adds an extra layer of character to the venue.

Fans of Disney’s history might recognize a familiar face in Rummy. He shares a resemblance with the original Barker Bird that once greeted guests outside the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction, a charming nod to park history.

The Mess: A Hall for Tales and Toasts

The heart of The Beak and Barrel is a spacious room known as “The Mess.” Once a dining hall for Spanish soldiers, it’s now been transformed into a communal gathering space where long tables invite visitors to swap stories and raise a glass together. Suspended from the ceiling, an anchor draped in candles and melting wax provides a dramatic focal point.

One side of the room is dominated by an impressive bar, assembled from parts of a shipwreck with a history of its own. At the bar’s center sits a skull-shaped stern, displaying an intriguing assortment of pirate-approved brews and spirits. Among the bar’s curiosities is the Enchanted Rum Bottle, a mystical artifact gifted to Captain Merry by the sorceress Tia Dalma, believed to be the source of the tavern’s unique drink creations.

A Pirate’s Taste of Luxury

For those seeking a quieter corner of the tavern, the Captains’ Quarters offers a glimpse into a pirate’s version of the high life. This space was once the private quarters of a Spanish commander but has long since been claimed by seafarers. The walls still bear scars from sword fights and reckless fires, while faded spots mark the absence of stolen treasures and artwork.

Adding to the intrigue, five miniature ships sealed within glass bottles sit above the fireplace. Legend has it these models represent notorious pirate captains from across the globe who joined forces against oppression. Keen-eyed guests might witness these tiny vessels coming to life in the midst of battle — if the rumors hold true.
