Brightline Again Delays Start of Service from South Florida to Orlando

According to a company spokesperson, Brightline’s date for starting passenger rail service between Miami and Orlando has been delayed once again. The rail service has still not completed train testing and certification of crew. In addition, they have been cautioned by Hurricane Idalia’s run in Florida.

Passengers who had booked trips from September 7 to September 21 between South and Central Florida will receive refunds from Brightline, in addition to upgrades to premium fares and a discount on Avis rental car rates.

“We are close to identifying a start date, but we’ve added a few more days to our work schedule to complete the final stages of certification and testing,” Brightline said in a note to passengers.

Passengers were informed in August that Brightline would be unable to meet its scheduled inaugural service in early September. The company is in the final stages of a pioneering effort to start from scratch in offering higher-speed, intercity passenger service.

Many Walt Disney World visitors who also visit South Florida will be able to use Brightline to avoid the drive between Miami and Orlando.
