Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin at Disney World’s Magic Kingdom is about to get a stellar upgrade! Guests can look forward to a brand-new scene, refreshed ride vehicles, and improved gameplay features that will make blasting Zurg’s forces even more thrilling. These enhancements are set to debut next year, bringing fresh energy to this classic Tomorrowland attraction.
Meet Buddy, Your New Space Sidekick
A brand-new character is joining the adventure! Created by Disney Imagineers and Pixar Animation Studios, this helpful support-bot, named Buddy, will play an important role at Star Command.
Before blasting off, guests will interact with Buddy, who will offer mission briefings, system checks, and words of encouragement. This friendly robot will also introduce updated interactive target features, giving Space Rangers a chance to practice their aim before taking on Emperor Zurg’s evil forces.

New Look for Star Cruisers
The ride’s vehicles are getting a sleek redesign inspired by Buzz Lightyear and Star Command. These updated star cruisers will feature bold new colors and improved technology, including built-in video monitors that will track scores in real time.
Handheld Blasters for Better Accuracy
One of the most exciting changes is the introduction of handheld blasters. These will make it easier to aim, allowing all guests—including younger riders—to fully engage in the action.
The blasters will feature an always-on laser, making it easier to see where shots are landing. Each cruiser will also have two differently colored blasters, adding a new layer of strategy to the game. Enhanced lighting, sound effects, and vibrations will further immerse players in the battle.

Upgraded Interactive Targets
The static Z targets currently in the attraction are being replaced with cutting-edge technology that reacts when hit. These new interactive targets will light up, providing instant feedback and making gameplay more engaging.
Disney Imagineers recently held a test session for the new gameplay mechanics, allowing team members to experience the upgrades firsthand. These playtests are essential for refining the attraction, ensuring that every new feature enhances the guest experience.
Temporary Closure for Enhancements
To prepare for these exciting updates, Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin will close temporarily in August. The revamped attraction is set to reopen next year with all the new features in place. Star Command is counting on recruits to return and help defend the galaxy!
Should Disney update more classic rides like this, or do you prefer them to stay the same?
