Disney Cruise Line has officially welcomed the Disney Destiny to its growing fleet of cruise ships. A formal delivery ceremony was held in Eemshaven, Netherlands. Ownership of the vessel was transferred from renowned shipbuilder Meyer Werft to Disney Cruise Line.
The Disney Destiny is the latest in Disney’s tradition of combining cutting-edge shipbuilding with world-class entertainment. The ship emerged from the dry dock for the first time in August. Recently, it completed a series of successful sea trials in the North Sea, a vital step in preparing the ship for passenger service.
Attending the delivery event were senior Disney executives, including Joe Schott, President of Disney Signature Experiences, and Sharon Siskie, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Disney Cruise Line. The Disney Destiny will be commanded by Captain Andy McRonald, who also attended the ceremony, along with Captains Mickey and Minnie Mouse, symbolizing the magic that Disney brings to the high seas.
A Theme of Duality: Heroes vs. Villains
Now that the ownership transfer is complete, the Disney Destiny is officially part of the Disney fleet, and will soon begin its transatlantic voyage to its new homeport in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
The ship’s theme, “Heroes & Villains,” extends throughout the ship’s décor, entertainment offerings, dining experiences, and character appearances, including unique interactions with Dr. Facilier Cruella de Vil and Dr. Strange’s themed lounges, the ever-popular Haunted Mansion Parlor, and the ship’s all-new exclusive Broadway-style production of Hercules.
The maiden voyage of the Disney Destiny is scheduled on November 20, sailing from Port Everglades. Watch for new information to be released as the Disney Destiny maiden voyage nears!
