Disney Files Construction Permit for EPCOT Imagination Pavilion

According to an application filed by the Walt Disney World Resort with the Orange County Comptroller, Disney is planning some construction on the EPCOT Imagination pavilion.

The permit that Disney filed is for general construction, and it lists the address of 1990 Avenue of the Stars, which is the Imagination pavilion.

The permit is open until November 28, 2025.  It’s not uncommon for organizations to request a maximum construction timeline on a permit, even if the actual project might not take as long.

A general construction permit could mean anything from minor maintenance to a significant reworking of the attraction.

A History Of Changes

Like nearly all attractions that have been open for an extended period, the EPCOT Imagination pavilion has a history of change:

1983: Opening of Journey into Imagination
The original attraction opened with the park in 1983. It featured the lovable characters Figment and Dreamfinder, who took guests on a whimsical journey through the realms of imagination.

1998: Closure of Original Attraction
The original Journey into Imagination attraction closed.

1999: Opening of Journey Into YOUR Imagination
The attraction was reopened as “Journey Into YOUR Imagination,” without Figment as the central character. This version was widely criticized by fans for its departure from the original.

2001: Closure of Journey Into YOUR Imagination
The “Journey Into YOUR Imagination” attraction closed after only two years of operation due to poor reception.

2002: Reopening as Journey Into Imagination With Figment
The original attraction was reimagined and reopened as “Journey Into Imagination With Figment.” Figment was brought back as the central character, much to the delight of fans.

2010: Renovation of Journey Into Imagination With Figment
The attraction underwent a slight renovation, updating some effects and scenes.
