As construction continues at EPCOT, we are beginning to see exciting and unique projects take shape. World Celebration – the future home of beautiful gardens and spaces that will come alive throughout the seasons with the International Festival program, is an area that will see pleasing details in the walkways that will in time wind through the park.
Installation is underway of custom metalwork that will become gracefully curved pathways from Dreamers Point to the center of World Celebration.
The walkways are constructed from metal panels of weathered steel, aka corten steel, which once cured, will form a beautiful orange-hued patina. The patina will provide a deep, rich color and protective corrosion barrier. The panels will have a dual purpose; providing protective grating for trees while following the same architectural curve as the Connections Cafe and Eatery and Creation shop facades.
Disney Imagineer Zach Riddley, via an Instagram post, recently shared a close-up look at the custom metal tiles for Dreamers Point at EPCOT, giving you a glimpse into the touches the crews are adding to the festival area, currently under construction.
New utility covers featuring thematic metalwork elements are beginning to sprout up in new park neighborhoods, so keep your eyes peeled when strolling through EPCOT and your eagle-eyes might just see one of these distinctive utility covers.
