Disney has brought joy to the lives of children for decades. For some, Disney characters and films have been an escape from the unfortunate realities of a serious illness.
Now, Disney is helping Central Florida hospitals change their facilities to make them more friendly to children.
AdventHealth for Children, Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children, and Nemours Children’s Hospital are all working with Disney to incorporate some Disney magic into their buildings. The hospitals will be adding play areas, artwork, and care packages all featuring some of Disney’s iconic characters.
The Disney Children’s Hospitals Program
The new project is called The Disney Children’s Hospitals Program, and the goal is to provide an escape for kids and families that may be going through a hard time. Disney has long been focused on delivering the magic outside their Parks, especially to those in need. “At Disney, we recognize the positive impact our characters, stories and renowned creativity can have on children facing serious illness and their families, and we’re so excited to bring our children’s hospitals program to these three Central Florida hospitals,” said Elissa Margolis, senior vice president, Enterprise Social Responsibility.
Margolis went on to say “We’re proud to be able to make a difference in our local communities and we’re thankful for the strong support from the hospitals’ staff, healthcare professionals and experts that made this unique collaboration possible.
The hope for all parties involved with this project is to positively impact as many families as possible. Tajiana Ancora-Brown, director, WDW External Affairs stated: “Being a child in a hospital can be overwhelming, and it’s incredibly touching that we’re able to bring comfort and our much-loved Disney characters directly to children who are facing a difficult time in hopes it reduces anxiety and brings a little joy to their hospital experience”.
