At today’s Destination D23 event, the Chief Creative Office of Walt Disney Imagineering, Bruce Vaughn, shared some Blue Sky updates for an expansion of the Magic Kingdom.
Vaughn explained that the expansion will be the largest ever for the Magic Kingdom, similar to the huge new lands that Disney created with Pandora — The World of Avatar at Disney’s Animal Kingdom and Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
Disney has referred to this area as ‘Beyond Big Thunder Mountain,’ referring to its likely location on the west side of the park, beyond the current berm and train tracks and past the Big Thunder Mountain attraction.
Disney seems to be positioning this as planning and exploration as opposed to solidified plans. There is no timeline for this expansion.
