Each year, the theme park industry trade group, called the Themed Entertainment Association (TEA), holds a convention called the International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions (IAAPA) Expo.
This year they are awarding several awards to Disney:
Stuntronics
Disney introduced a new technology called Stuntronics at the Avengers Campus at Disney California Adventure. Stuntronics is a lifelike robot that allows Spider-Man to fly flies through the air. That new technology received a Thea Award for Outstanding Technical Innovation.
Lifetime Achievement Award
IAAPA recognized retired Imagineer Doris Hardoon for lifetime achievement for her work dating back to 1979. Hardoon worked on World Showcase, Disney’s Animal Kingdom, Tokyo Disneyland, Disneyland Paris, and Shanghai Disney Resort.
THEA Catalyst Award
IAPPA also recognized Carmen Smith with the Thea Catalyst Award for making an impact benefiting the industry. Smith has worked to diversify external partnerships and collaboration and to ensure thoughtful representation.
Brass Ring Award
Disney won awards for the “Magic Happens” parade, the Oogie Boogie Bash, and Remy Plush.
