Disney’s Land Bonanza: 1,000 Acres Available For Turbocharged Park Expansions

During a recent presentation to investors and Wall Street analysts held at Walt Disney World, The Walt Disney Company CEO Bob Iger and Chairman of Disney Parks, Experiences, and Products Josh D’Amaro unveiled their extensive vision, confirming that Disney possesses “over 1,000 acres of land for possible future development to expand theme park space across its existing sites – the equivalent of about seven new Disneyland Parks.”

Iger emphasized the limitless potential of Disney’s parks, stating, “There are far fewer limits to our parks business than people think. The growth trajectory is very compelling if we do nothing beyond what we have already committed. By dramatically increasing our investment — building big, being ambitious, maintaining quality and high standards and using our most popular I.P. — it will be turbocharged.”

D’Amaro highlighted the remarkable resilience of Disney Parks during challenging times, noting, “Every time there has been a moment of crisis or concern, we have managed to bounce back faster than anyone expected.”

Expansion Planned

Disney is gearing up to double its expenditure on Disney Parks and Disney Cruise Line over the next decade. D’Amaro also disclosed that IPs such as “Coco,” “Zootopia,” and “Encanto” have yet to be fully integrated into Disney Parks. “Encanto” and “Zootopia” are part of “Blue Sky” projects in development for Disney’s Animal Kingdom, while “Coco” could find its place in the “Beyond Big Thunder Mountain” Magic Kingdom expansion. Furthermore, a “Zootopia” themed land is soon to debut at Shanghai Disneyland.

Intriguingly, D’Amaro teased the possibility of bringing “Black Panther” and “Wakanda” to life within the parks, stating, “Imagine bringing Wakanda to life. In terms of bringing the latest Disney-Marvel-Pixar intellectual property to the parks, we haven’t come close to scratching the surface. And we have learned that incorporating Disney I.P. increases the return on investment significantly.”

California vs. Florida

While Disney is actively collaborating with the California government to explore expansion opportunities at Disneyland Resort through the DisneylandForward initiative, the situation in Florida presents challenges due to legal disputes with Governor Ron DeSantis and the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District.

D’Amaro expressed Disney’s aspirations for growth in Florida, saying, “For the benefit of our guests, our cast members, and the economy of central Florida, we hope the conditions will be there for us to do so.”

No New Parks

Notably, Disney currently has no plans to construct new theme parks in other countries or cities; instead, they are focused on expanding Disney Cruise Line ports, with the new Disney Adventure ship set to be based in Singapore.
