Disney’s Streaming Service Announces Subscriber Increase and Pricing Changes

Disney’s Combined Streaming Subscribers Surpassed Netflix in Q3 2022

The Walt Disney Company recently reported earnings for the third quarter 2022, and that it has added enough subscribers to surpass the solo king of streaming subscribers worldwide Netflix.

Disney CEO Bob Chapek announced a growth of 14.4 million subscribers across Disney streaming services – Disney+, Hulu, and Star among others. The combined numbers totaled 221 million global subscribers, just edging out Netflix with 220.7 global subscribers.

Even though Disney reported numbers as a combined effort, while Netflix is only Netflix, the numbers reflect Disney’s power in the streaming industry. Even more, growth is expected with the pricing tiers that have been announced (see below).

Ad-Supported Disney+ Premieres December 8, Pricing Raised

Beginning December 8, subscribers can begin streaming ad-supported Disney+ for a lower price in the United States, according to DEADLINE.

The ad-supported streaming service will be available for $7.99 per month. An ad-free option will be offered for $10.99 per month or $109.00 annually. 

Ad-supported Disney+ will be bundled with Hulu for $9.99 per month. The full Disney bundle, which includes ad-supported ESPN+ will be available for $12.99 per month. 

Hulu + Live TV which includes Disney+, Hulu and ESPN+ is preparing to offer an ad-supported plan for $69.99 per month.
