Back in 1997, Dana and his wife Melanie had an idea: Make Melanie a purse that matched the seatbelts of their 1950 Buick. It turned out that all the couple’s friends like the new handbag so much they wanted one for themselves.
That is how Harveys started – tough handbags made in the USA out of seatbelt materials. Really.
Past designs have included those inspired by Elvis Presley, Barbie, Mercedes-Benz, and Sid’s Tattoo Parlor.
The company comes out with new styles every month, and has added Walt Disney to their designs.
The purses are on the Harveys web site as well as on Main Street USA in the Magic Kingdom. Prices range up to about $178. The designs are distinctive and the quality is high.
