Have you ever wondered what it takes to build a Disney Cruise ship – a wonder of design, technology, and engineering? Here is your opportunity to get an up-close and behind-the-scenes look at how the newest Disney Cruise Line ship was built, from conception to completion.
A new National Geographic documentary has been released and is now streaming on Disney+ that will take you through the design process right up to the launching of the Disney Wish. The documentary will cover every stage from a blank sheet of paper to welcoming guests on board.
The special, entitled “Making the Wish: Disney’s Newest Cruise Ship” will take you behind the scenes as you witness a massive cruise ship go from paper to the open ocean, This 90-minute documentary views the development process from the perspective of both the Disney Cruise Line and Walt Disney Imagineering teams.
I had a chance to preview the show and listen in on a panel discussion with the filmmakers, courtesy of the nice folks at Disney Media Relations.
Hundreds Of Workers
It took a small army to build the Disney Wish: hundreds of construction workers, engineers, architects, designers, animators, composers, storytellers, cast, and crew. Together, they took 144,000 tons of steel and built it into perhaps the most enchanting vessel ever to take to the sea.
The documentary makers created the show for two different audiences at the same time: the National Geographic audience, with an interest in the big engineering aspects of ship production and assembly, and of course for Disney fans, who want to see how the magic onboard comes alive.
Show Is Now On Disney+
Tune in to Disney+ starting February 17 and learn about the shipbuilding process and catch all of the details, workmanship, and special behind-the-scenes moments.
