The Best Way to Meet Rare Winnie the Pooh Characters

Winnie the Pooh is one of the most popular character experiences at the Magic Kingdom. Adults love him, kids love him, and he’s a fan favorite! Waiting in the heat and spending precious park time simply standing around waiting for your few minutes with Pooh feels like a necessity to many families.

But what if you didn’t have to? What if you could meet not only Winnie the Pooh and Tigger, but also Piglet and Eeyore? And better yet, what if this were guaranteed? Zero chance of Pooh taking a break or a line closing just before you get there.

Today, my friends, we need to talk about one of my absolute favorite dining locations at Walt Disney World – The Crystal Palace.

Where is The Crystal Palace?

Crystal Palace is located inside the Magic Kingdom. If you head down Main Street towards Cinderella Castle, you’re going to want to stay to the left side. Once you pass Casey’s Corner, take that sharp left towards the area where you find the bathrooms and First Aid. The Crystal Palace is that gorgeous white building with a glass greenhouse roof. Impossible to miss!

Please note that you must have a valid park admission to Magic Kingdom to dine at Crystal Palace.

The Crystal Palace Dining Experience

Aesthetically, The Crystal Palace is one of my very favorite dining experiences. The restaurant was inspired by Victorian greenhouses, so it’s light and open with high ceilings and tall windows. Everything is lovely shades of white and green, and there are many old-fashioned fixtures and decorative details. There are lots of tall plants and lush greenery to add to the feel.

More importantly, you will notice a banner reading “Welcome to our Friendship Day Celebrashun” hung in the restaurant. That, of course, is the party that you are attending! Welcome! You’re just in time!

Now, when you’re seated at your table, a cast member will take your drink orders and deliver drinks, and then point you to the buffet. You make your plate and bring it back to your table – pretty self-explanatory. As you’re eating, Winnie the Pooh, Tigger, Piglet, and Eeyore will begin to make a loop around the restaurant. They will be accompanied by a cast member who will ensure that Pooh and his friends make it to each table to interact with every guest. They may take breaks, but they will come right back to where they left off.

At some point during your meal, Pooh and his friends will have a friendship parade. How exciting! They’ll invite all the children to come up and march in the parade around the restaurant with Pooh, Tigger, Piglet, and Eeyore. It is absolutely delightful.

So wait, you might be saying. Are you telling me that not only do I get a guaranteed meeting with Pooh and Tigger, but I also get guaranteed meetings with rare characters? And I get to wait my turn in an air-conditioned restaurant with a table, a delicious meal, and a beverage?

YES, my friend, that is EXACTLY what I’ve been trying to tell you!

Why These Characters are So Rare

Winnie the Pooh and Tigger are the only Winnie the Pooh characters with a guaranteed meet and greet spot at Magic Kingdom. Aside from special occasions, such as Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party or Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party, the only place you are going to find Piglet and Tigger available for a meet and greet is during character dining at The Crystal Palace.

And once again, let me remind you that this particular experience requires no lines and involves air conditioning and a meal. Personally, I always leave feeling like my money was well-spent!

The Crystal Palace Menus

The Crystal Palace offers two different menus: breakfast, and lunch and dinner. They’re both buffets. Second (and third) helpings allowed and encouraged.

Breakfast offers Mickey waffles (including the CHURRO waffles), pancakes, eggs, bacon, biscuits and gravy, as well as your classic fresh fruit, yogurt, and assorted pastries.

For lunch and dinner, you can expect country-fried chicken with black pepper gravy, mashed potatoes, roasted carved beef, seasonal pasta, and shrimp creole. And obviously, dessert.

Please note that menus are subject to change; this is what is on the Disney World website at the time of writing, but make sure to check before you go if you’ve got your heart set on a particular meal.

How to Dine at The Crystal Palace

The best way to ensure you get a guaranteed table at The Crystal Palace on the day you visit is to make a dining reservation. Guests with a valid Disney Resort Hotel Reservation can make reservations 60 days in advance of their arrival for their entire stay. For example, if you’re arriving on a Tuesday, but you want to go to The Crystal Palace on that Friday, you can make your reservation 60 days out from the Tuesday to help your vacation planning go more smoothly.

All other guests can make reservations 60 days in advance of the reservation date.

New reservation slots open at 6:00 AM each day, so make sure you set your alarm!

Off You Go!

The Crystal Palace is one of my favorite dining locations at Walt Disney World. I’ve been multiple times, and each time I leave feeling just as delighted as the last. If you’re stuck between breakfast and dinner, I always recommend breakfast. It’s one of the only spots in a theme park where you can have a genuinely filling and delicious breakfast – and I must shine a light once again on the delicious churro waffles. Seriously, they’re unreal.

If you have children, young or old, picky eaters who prefer no-fuss food, or simply a nostalgic love for Winnie the Pooh and his friends (any of my fellow millennials still have those VHS tapes?), The Crystal Palace offers all the Disney magic you could want in a dining experience. The price tag is steeper than some, but much less than others, and for the amount of food you’re offered alongside the character interaction, I think this is a MUST-DO for any big Disney fans on your next trip to Magic Kingdom.
