Disney has announced some new details on both the Moana 2 movie coming to theaters, as well as the products the company is offering to celebrate the new release.
Courtesy of the nice folks at Disney Media Relations, I had a chance to attend a virtual presentation where I learned more about the story and products of this new movie.
Story Details
While we don’t know the full story, Dana Ledoux Miller, a director of the film, shared a few tidbits on what we can expect:
- Moana will lead a crew of characters. They aren’t the best crew ever, but they are interesting.
- Moana now has a little sister, Simea.
- Moana’s grandmother makes an appearance in the film.
- Fan-favorite characters Maui, Pua, and Hei Hei return in Moana 2.
Ledoux Miller shared a story from an early preview where a guest said that the story of Moana 2 is like meeting an old friend going on a new adventure.
Now that we know a bit more about the movie, let’s take a look at some of the merchandise coming out to celebrate the film:
Moana Gets a New Look in Toys from Mattel
New dolls from Mattel showcase your soon-to-be favorite sister duo, Moana, and her little sis, Simea. The Singing Adventure Moana doll features her brand-new look and sings a clip from “We’re Back,” one of the original songs from the film. She also has fun accessories including her signature oar, a headdress, and a conch shell. Disney is also introducing Moana’s energetic little sister as part of the new products, like the Simea Fashion Doll. Mattel rounds up the assortment with new playsets, including a fun new canoe set modeled after Moana’s larger canoe in the film.
Moana Joins the American Girl Doll Lineup
The American Girl Disney Princess Collection continues to expand with the newest addition, the Disney Moana Doll by American Girl®. The 18-inch doll has curly hair and brown eyes and wears Moana’s signature new outfit from the theatrical sequel to the original film. Fan favorite characters Heihei and Pua are part of the story in the Moana Accessories pack which also comes with Moana’s signature oar and a floral lei that fits around Moana’s head. Moana will join other recently released Disney Princess American Girl Dolls, like Rapunzel, Tiana, Cinderella, and Ariel.
American Girl doll goes on pre-order on November 27.

LEGO Sets
Get ready to go on voyages by assembling these new Moana’s Adventure Canoe and Moana’s Island Fun building sets from LEGO. Both inspired by the world of Moana 2, these LEGO sets feature mini-figures of Moana and friends, including her pal Pua. These will be available in December 2024 and early January 2025!
Funko Fun
Funko is also joining the brands launching new Moana 2 products this fall. The just-announced Maui POP (shapeshifter, demigod of the wind and sea, hero to all – you know the drill) features his signature magical fishhook, and Moana comes with a little buddy, her little sis Simea.
Funko will also manufacture Moana 2 keychains. New Funko Pop collectibles will be released later this year.
Disney will release Moana 2 in theaters on November 27, 2024.
