As of September 25, 2025, Disney’s Hollywood Studios has permanently closed much of Animation Courtyard, including Star Wars: Launch Bay, to free up space for a reimagined environment inspired by the Walt Disney Studios. As part of the redesign, a refreshed version of The Magic of Disney Animation will return to the park.
- Areas for play and informal exploration
- Shaded spots beneath trees for relaxing
- Casual snack options and seating
Similar to seasonal offerings such as the park’s recent family events, characters will make appearances so guests can meet favorite personalities in the newly configured courtyard.

Remaining Open During Transformation
Not every venue in Animation Courtyard will close during the renovation. Some shows and exhibits will remain accessible while construction and re-theming take place.
The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure, which opened this summer, will continue performances and will have its home rebranded as the Studio Theater.
Return of The Magic of Disney Animation
Star Wars: Launch Bay will make way for a modernized reintroduction of The Magic of Disney Animation. That attraction originally welcomed guests when the park opened in 1989 and remained in place until 2015, when it was replaced by the Star Wars presentation.
The original Magic of Disney Animation offered insight into how animated films were produced at Disney’s Florida feature animation studio. Visitors could observe animator techniques, learn about the creative process behind films such as Lilo & Stitch, and view an explanatory short film designed to demystify animation work.
The updated experience is expected to blend nostalgia with current storytelling, preserving the educational spirit of the original while aligning the space with Hollywood Studios’ refreshed aesthetic.
How do you feel about Disney closing Star Wars: Launch Bay to bring back The Magic of Disney Animation?
