The first week of votes in the Tournament of Disney Dining have been counted, and the surprises are everywhere. A pair of #3 seeds bit the dust, a #5 seed was the nearly the top vote-getter, and Pecos Bill almost got taken out by Sam Eagle. With voting moving now to the Resorts and Disney Springs, who knows what kind of shockers could be in store next.
It was easy going for top two seeds in the Parks division, the Sci-Fi Drive-In Theater, and Le Cellier, winning easily against Tony’s Town Square and Mama Melrose’s. The tournament was one-and-done for Hollywood Studios 50’s PrimeTime Café, though, upended by Magic Kingdom’s Liberty Tree Tavern, 54%-46%. With #4 Yak & Yeti knocking off the #5 Skipper Canteen (62%-38%), all four parks will be represented in the second round.
The Quick Service division got underway as well, bringing challenges for the top contenders and upsets for the #3 and 4 seeds. #1 Woody’s Lunch Box (62%) and #2 Pecos Bill’s (57%) both had their hands full, but advanced over #8 Aloha Isle and the #7 Regal Eagle Smokehouse. The same could not be said for Sonny Eclipse and the crew at #3 Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Café, which was ousted by #6 Casey’s Corner by just 12 votes, 51%-49%. Meanwhile, #4 Satu’li Canteen was never in contention, falling in a rout to #5 Flame Tree Barbecue 70%-30%.
Action shifts this week to the Resorts and Disney Springs, with 16 more dining destinations battling it out. Your votes will make the call.
