For a little over a month, Disney’s greatest assistants have battled each other for the chance to be crowned the number one sidekick in the animated universe. After five weeks of voting, the field has been narrowed to the top two overall seeds. Now the finals are here, and Aladdin’s Genie will tangle with Frozen’s Olaf to take home the overall title. The semifinals were half excitement, half blowout. On the blowout side, real life played out like the movies, as Genie had no issue dispatching top villain sidekick Iago in an All-Aladdin semi. None of the Not Your Mother’s Goose tournaments so far has seen a blowout quite like this, as Genie grabbed early vote leads of 49-0 and 88-2 before cruising on to win 460-36.
Semifinal number two was a different story, as Baloo looked to pull off his second nailbiting win in a row, but this time came up short against Olaf, 56%-44%. The battle was tight throughout, even inspiring some heated debate on Facebook. One Baloo voter commented “It would be good to have a big bear as your best friend. That goofy little snowman wouldn’t be very good in a fight, and he would melt the first time it gets hot.” In the end, though, Olaf didn’t melt under the pressure and gets a crack at the big blue behemoth in the finals.
