Hurricane Milton has gained strength and is now a category 5 storm and is projected to hit the Walt Disney World Resort area on Thursday. Ahead of the storm, Disney announced a number of resort hotel closures across Walt Disney World property.
Disney released the following statement regarding closures at Walt Disney World Resort:
We are closely monitoring the path of the projected storm, and the safety of our Guests and Cast Members remains our top priority. Walt Disney World Resort is currently operating under normal conditions and will continue to be on Tuesday, Oct. 8. Looking ahead, we are making adjustments based on the latest weather forecast and some areas with unique environments.
Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground, the Copper Creek Cabins at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge, and the Treehouse Villas at Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa will temporarily close beginning at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 9.
Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground and the Treehouse Villas at Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa are likely to remain closed until Sunday, Oct. 13
The Copper Creek Cabins at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge will likely reopen on Friday, Oct. 11.
Milton was still categorized as a tropical storm when a State of Emergency was issued for Walt Disney World on Saturday, October 5. Milton grew to a hurricane the very next day, October 6. As of this publishing, Milton is currently a Category 5 hurricane, after being classified Category 4 earlier in the day.
A Hurricane Warning has been announced by the National Weather Service for Orange County, home to both Walt Disney World and Universal Orlando Resort.
Hotel reservations at Walt Disney World have been paused for Wednesday, October 9 and Thursday, October 10. Park reservations are also blocked out for October 9 and Disney has waived hotel cancelation and change fees for guests who need to change their plans due to the incoming storm.
