World of Walt contributor Topher Goggin and his “Not Your Mother’s Goose” podcast are back with another fun Disney tournament, and they need your votes. After previously running the Tournament of Villians and Tournament of Rides, they now turn to Disney’s often overlooked second-bananas with the Tournament of Sidekicks.
Twenty-four assistants have been selected for the field (I got to help with the selection process), and will now square off in a six-week battle to pick the number one helper in the Disney animated universe. First-round byes have been given to the top seeds: Genie, Timon & Pumbaa, Olaf, Tinkerbell, Baloo, Baymax, the Hyenas, and LeFou.
Voting is now open for the opening round in the “Disney Renaissance” Region and the “Villains” Region, with the following matchups:
Renaissance
#3 Lumiere & Cogsworth (Beauty and the Beast) vs. #6 Zazu (Lion King)
Winner advances to play #1 Genie
#4 Sebastian (Little Mermaid) vs. #5 Mushu (Mulan)
Winner advances to play #2 Timon & Pumbaa
Villains
#3 Iago (Aladdin) vs. #6 Evil Stepsisters (Cinderella)
Winner advances to play #1 Hyenas
#4 Smee (Peter Pan) vs. #5 Flotsam and Jetsam (Little Mermaid)
Winner advances to play #2 LeFou
